This book is actually so good! This book revolves around a young protagonist, Beatrice Prior, who is turning sixteen. Because of some unknown catastrophe, survivors divided into five factions, each one focusing on different virtues. Beatrice and her family are in Abnegations, which emphasizes selflessness. The four other factions are Candor; honest, Dauntless; bravery, Amity; peace, and Erudite; intelligence.
On your sixteenth birthday you must choose which faction you will be associated with; if it is not the faction that you were born into, you will probably never see your family again. Beatrice always admired the Dauntless, and when it came for her to decide, she leaves her family and joins them. Here Beatrice meets Four, who soon becomes her one true love.
Like any dystopian world there is a secret to their perfect system: many people don't fit into just one factions or another. These individuals are known as the Divergent, and our protagonist is one of them.
This book is well written, with solid pros and emotional and thematic depth that gives the book an extra nudge. The characters are interesting and compelling... uuhhmmmm... Four. I wish he would save me when I need it and let me touch all his tattoos.
HAHAHAHA ANYWAYS! I liked this story because every virtue can be inverted into a vice, and this is slowly what we see as the story continues. Bravery can give way to aggression; intelligence can become calculating and manipulative; love of peace can become passivity; honesty can become a way to brutalize others; selflessness can be inverted into self-destruction.
All in all I loved this story and can't wait to reread the other two books and share my opinion on them!
